How Do You Measure A Roof For Metal Roofing

This drawing doesn t have to be perfect but it does need to clearly label all of the features of the roof in inches and feet.
How do you measure a roof for metal roofing. For example your roof could measure 12 feet to its peak. Add an inch or two depending on your preference for overhang. The hip style roof is in blue and the gable style roof is in red. If the pitch of the roof is not that steep you won t have to worry too much about following.
It does have to contain all the straight lines of your roof and an accurate measurement of those lines. Roughly draw out your roof on a piece of paper. You will then measure how much it will be for the with all the way to the edge. Remember it doesn t have to be to scale or look pretty.
For example if you measure 12 feet then make the length 12 feet 1 inch or 12 feet 2 inches. You will need to go up on top. This number will tell you the total length of metal panels needed. You should do this with someone that can hold one end of the tape measure so you can go to the other ends.
Determine the length of the metal panels needed for one side of your roof by measuring from the fascia board the board attached to your roof joists to the ridge the peak of the roof.
